چکیده

Ion implantation of 0 into Al and growth of Al(0) layers using electron-cyclotron resonance plasma and pulsed laser depositions produce composite alloys with a high density of nanometersize oxide precipitates in an Al matrix. The precipitates impart high strength to the alloy and reduced adhesion during sliding contact, while electrical conductivity and ductility are retained. Implantation of N into Al produces similar microstructures and mechanical properties. The athermal energies of deposited atoms are a key factor in achieving these properties.

Order-disorder phase transitions in the two-dimensional semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenide alloys Mo1−xWxX2 (X = S, Se, and Te)

A combination of density functional theory, an empirical model, and Monte Carlo simulations is used to shed light on the evolution of the atomic distribution in the two-dimensional semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenide alloys Mo(1-x)W(x)X2 (X = S, Se, and Te) as a function of the W concentration and temperature. Both random and ordered phases are discovered and the origin of the phase ...

Facile Hydrothermal Synthesis of Tellurium Nanostructures for Solar Cells

Tellurium (Te) nanostructures have been successfully synthesized via a simple hydrothermal methodfrom the reaction of a TeCl4 aqueous solution with thioglycolic acid (TGA) as a reductant. TGA can be easily oxidized to the corresponding disulfide [SCH2CO2H]2, which in turn can reduce TeCl4 to Te. The obtained Te was characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, and DRS. The effect of reducing agent on morphol...

Constant Volume Explosions of Aerosols of Metallic Mechanical Alloys and Powder Blends

High-energy ball milling was used to prepare sets of mechanical alloys in the systems Al–Mg, Al–Mg–H, B–Mg, and Ti–B. X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and low-angle laser diffraction were used to characterize structures, morphology, and sizes of the alloys, respectively. The produced materials were metastable and nanocrystalline; the particle sizes were in the range of 1–501m. A constant...

Preparation of Energetic Metastable Nano-Composite Materials by Arrested Reactive Milling M. Schoenitz, T. Ward and E.L. Dreizin

Highly metastable, nano-scale energetic materials were prepared by Arrested Reactive Milling (ARM). When reactive milling is carried out with materials systems suitable for SelfPropagating High Temperature Synthesis (SHS), reaction between the components occurs spontaneously and violently after a certain period of milling. In this research, metastable nanocomposites with high energy density, we...

Effect of particle size distribution on strength of precipitation-hardened alloys

Aging of precipitation hardened alloys results in particle coarsening, which in turn affects the strength. In this study, the effect of particle size distribution on the strength of precipitation-hardened alloys was considered. To better represent real alloys, the particle radii were distributed using the Wagner and Lifshitz and Slyozov (WLS) particle size distribution theory. The dislocation m...
